Father Candido Amantini – Passionist
Prayer to Obtain the Beatification of
Father Candido
O
God, we thank You for the Gift to the
Church of the Servant of God Father Candido Amantini, Passionist, and for
having made the redemptive power of Your Mercy shine in him. He, according to the example of Christ,
Physician of Souls and of Bodies, “spent his life doing good and healing those
who were under the power of darkness and the Evil One,” by giving light and
hope to the hearts of those who were disheartened and away from you. In the image of Jesus the Good Shepherd, he
was a master and guide to all those who turned to him in the Sacrament of
Penance and for spiritual direction.
Conforming himself to Christ Crucified, he offered his sufferings and
life for the good of the Church and of his Congregation.
I
ask You, through his intercession, to grant, according to Your Will, the graces
for which I beg you (…) in the hope that he will be soon counted among the
Blessed. Amen.
Glory be to the Father…
With ecclesiastical approval
Blessing that Father Candido Gave to the
Faithful
May the Lord Jesus be always with
you. May He walk beside you to guide
you, be behind you to protect you, be within you to guard you, and be above you
to enlighten you. Amen.
The Life Story of Father Candido
Father
Candido (Eraldo) Amantini, a Passionist religious, was born on January 31, 1914
in Bagnolo di Santa Fiora, a small town on Mount Amiata in Tuscany.
Called to
the religious life, he took his vows at the age of 16 at the Retreat of St.
Joseph on Mount Argentario and was ordained a Priest in Rome on March 13, 1937.
He delved into the study of Sacred Scriptures and taught for many years. Among
other things, he wrote “The Mystery of Mary,” a book which, other than being a
study of the theology of Mary the Mother of God, shows his affection for Mary,
who is the Mother of Jesus and our Mother.
The Apostolate
that occupied him for more than 30 years at the Scala Santa in Rome was one of
Spiritual Direction, Confession, and Exorcism. He fought a difficult battle
with Evil that fatigued him very much and ended only with his death on
September 22, 1992, the Feast of Saint Candido. As an Exorcist, he became an
expert on diabolical possession and exorcism and was called upon for
conferences and debates on the subject at the University of Rome, which were
broadcast on television and radio.
His
charity and patience towards persons in difficulty who turned to him in his
priestly ministry were great. He had
close spiritual relationships with Father Cappello and with Saint Pio of
Pietrelcina, who said of him, “Father Candido is a Priest according to the
Heart of God.”
